Restoration
Cedar lumber from Land Revival, LLC/Circle V Farm & Lumber is harvested as logs as part of Black Belt Prairie restoration services from Land Revival, LLC. Restoration is the ultimate focus of both Land Revival’s services and the milling and sale of cedar lumber.
Circle V Farm & Lumber prides itself on being an extension of Black Belt Prairie restoration while offering high quality cedar lumber for your project. Lumber orders may require the same size material, but the purpose of each may be different. For each order, we inquire about the purpose of the lumber to make sure that the logs we designate for your order will meet the project needs.
Harvesting
Cedar logs are not harvested from one location. Logs are harvested from whichever property that Land Revival is currently working on or closest to. Depending on your order needs, Land Revival will likely have to move locations to harvest trees that will make your lumber orders. Moving locations does increase the cost and time used to harvest the right trees, therefore, this cost will have to be supported in the sale of the logs.
For each order of lumber, cedar trees and logged are picked specifically for each order. Lumber is not just cut into large quantities and then divided to fill orders. Lumber is cut according to order specifications, including the use of the order.
Generally, lumber 10 feet or longer takes longer to collect. We cannot rush the process of collection as it can potentially destroy the restoration process due to the Black Belt Prairie’s highly erodible soil. Please be aware that for lumber of this size, it can take longer to harvest the logs due to these conditions.
Lumber Specifications
Lumber is cut and sold with 3 clean sides. This means that some defects may be present on the 4th side of the lumber. Additionally, some bark may remain. However, we do our best to make sure that minimal bark is included in your order.
For orders requiring less sap wood, or lumber needing more red on it, an additional $0.25 per board feet will be added to the order total to cover the cost of milling additional logs and lumber to meet your project requirements. Any additional specifications for the lumber will increase the base price.
Lumber Pricing & Payments
After orders are placed, a 50% deposit is required before the order begins being worked on. We require a deposit to cover the cost of logging the trees and transporting them to the farm. The remainder of the order balance is due at pick up.
Any changes to lumber orders that reduce the size of the material or the amount ordered will incur an additional $150 change fee. Because trees are specifically picked to fulfill your order, a reduction in size often results in a loss of usable material. For example, an order of 12ft length material requires additional time and cost to acquire trees to meet those specifications. If this order is reduced to 8ft length material, the reduction in cost does not always cover the expenses to obtain those logs as well as the now unusable 4ft length material.
Milling Time & Additional Terms
Lumber orders are cut in the order in which they are received. If we are cutting material of the same dimensions that happens to fulfil more than one order, we are likely to cut those orders at the same time. Doing so can reduce cutting time.
Lumber can be delivered. The cost of delivery is a minimum of $200 or $2.25 per loaded mile. This is subject to change based on the price of diesel at the time of delivery.
Circle V Farm & Lumber is a working farm as well as home site.
